13 Church Street
Café-bar, skateshop and workspace

A hemmed-in site in Cardiff city centre, neglected but storied, now renovated to make a shared home for Bacareto and Cardiff Skateboard Club. From a narrow shopfront the building gradually opens up through a bar, kitchen and shop to a new dining room/screening space and outdoor terrace tucked amongst rooftops at the back.

Dames Road
Home and music studio

A former church hall in east London reanimated as a home and studio for two musicians. The grandiose front is retained, repaired and surrounded with planting like a landscape folly. Inside, a single new volume houses a recording studio below and bedroom above, leaving a bright double-height kitchen and mezzanine space looking onto a patio garden.

ESL Studio 1
Event space and broadcast studio

Repurposing of a storage warehouse in the Midlands to create a national base for ESL, a leading e-sports producer. The main volume was turned into a fully-equipped production facility for live online broadcasting and serves as the UK’s first dedicated space for esports gaming events. A rare ‘sui generis’ planning permission was secured for this new type of venue, outside of established planning definitions.

Reichenberger Strasse
Label base and recording studio

Inhabitation of one floor of a typical Berliner courtyard block to make a home for an independent music label. Two compact production suites sit behind a large, flexible lounge area used for working, meeting, songwriting and performance. Around this runs a backdrop of heavy curtains that expand and contract as needed, allowing users to fine tune the acoustics of the space.
